Photos taken on January 22, 2026, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland showed a noticeable large bruise on President Donald Trump’s left hand, drawing attention and concern online and among observers.
When asked about the mark aboard Air Force One, Trump described it as a minor accident, saying he had “clipped it on the table” and applied some cream afterward. He also attributed the dark appearance of the bruise to his daily use of high-dose aspirin, which is known to make bruising more likely by thinning the blood.
The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, issued a statement saying the injury occurred when Trump hit his hand on the corner of a signing table during a Board of Peace event at the forum.
Photos from earlier in the day didn’t show the bruise, and speculation about Trump’s health has persisted, in part because he is nearing 80 years old and has previously been seen with bruises on his right hand. The White House maintains these marks are not signs of serious underlying health issues.
