Known as the People’s Princess for her compassion and connection with ordinary citizens, Lady Diana’s life was tragically cut short in a car crash in Paris. She, her partner Dodi Fayed, driver Henri Paul, and bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones were involved in the fatal accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel while trying to escape paparazzi.
Xavier Gourmelon, one of the first responders, shared that when he reached Diana, she was conscious and had a minor shoulder injury. She reportedly said:
“My God, what’s happened?”
Gourmelon attempted to reassure her, believing she might survive, but Diana succumbed to massive internal injuries and internal bleeding at Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital the following day.
Her death shocked the world, with billions mourning her passing, and her funeral was watched by 2.3 billion people. Dodi Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al-Fayed, maintained that the crash was no accident.
Princess Diana remains an enduring symbol of compassion and care, remembered worldwide.
