The story follows a woman fleeing an airport after discovering that her husband may be involved in something far darker than she ever imagined. Before the chaos begins, a child named Lily gives her a disturbing note containing a warning:
“RUN. DO NOT GET ON THE PLANE. LOOK FOR THE BLACK SQUARE.”
As she escapes through the airport and hides among crowds, she realizes she is being watched by a mysterious man who has seemingly followed her across continents. The child’s drawing shows a house with a mysterious black square near its foundation, which initially appears meaningless.
While hiding and piecing together clues, she recalls suspicious behavior from her husband—secretive phone calls, strange business dealings, and cryptic conversations about “clearing the inventory.” She begins to suspect that she and Lily are not simply trapped in a troubled marriage but caught in a dangerous criminal conspiracy.
Eventually, she deciphers the drawing. The black square isn’t part of the house itself but represents a specific location in their backyard near a buried time capsule. This revelation leads her to an even bigger discovery: the true secret is connected to an old shed on their property, a place her husband had always forbidden her from entering.
Remembering a brass key she carries, she realizes it opens the shed. Whatever is hidden there may contain evidence capable of destroying her husband’s entire operation.
The story ends on a cliffhanger. Rather than continuing to flee, she decides to return home and confront the truth. She heads toward the shed, determined to uncover whatever secret lies behind the black square and turn the hunt against those pursuing her.
